Traits in Remnant: From the Ashes are special passive abilities tied to character progression. Traits provide a variety of effects from increasing basic stats such as Health and Stamina, to boosting critical hit chance or increasing the speed at which you revive teammates, and many more. Each Trait is obtained by performing a certain feat such as defeating a large number of opponents with a certain damage type, entering an area for the first time or defeating a specific boss. Traits are the key to building your character in your preferred playstyle and allow you to branch off from your chosen Archetype and their starting equipment. This page covers all information on the 50 Traits available in Remnant: From the Ashes.

Remnant: From the Ashes Traits Overview
Unlocking Traits in Remnant
Each Trait in Remnant: From the Ashes is unlocked in a specific way, ranging from defeating enemies with a certain damage type, entering an area for the first time or completing an event. Some Traits are even acquired from the same sources, but by achieving an alternate outcome. Once unlocked, Traits are permanently active and there is no limit to the amount of Traits that can be active at once. Traits are also bound to your character and their progression will persist between Campaign and Adventure Mode playthroughs. Survival Mode uses a different system that is independent of the other two modes.
Leveling Traits in Remnant
Except for the starting Traits automatically acquired by selecting an Archetype, all Traits start at Level 1 when unlocked, and each one can be then ranked up to a maximum of Level 20 by spending a Trait Point on them. Trait Points are acquired every time the player levels up by earning experience. Each level requires 1,500 Experience Points which are primarily obtained by killing Enemies and Bosses. Some objectives and mini-quests also grant Experience upon completion. Every time a Trait is leveled up, its effects increase by a certain amount. This is the key to building your character as you can choose exactly where to allocate your points.
Aside from leveling up, Trait Points can also be acquired by finding Tomes of Knowledge. These are rare items that have a chance to spawn in each major location of each world, including Dungeons. They are typically quite well hidden in inconspicuous locations, but can be identified from a distance by a distinct blue pillar of light emanating from them. Tomes of Knowledge automatically grant 1 Trait Point upon pick-up. They randomly spawn but are well worth looking out for in order to quickly level up your Traits.
Respeccing Traits in Remant
The ability to reset your Trait Point allocation is locked behind the final boss encounter of the Campaign. Note that this isn't necessarily the end of the game, just the end of the story as Remnant is a highly replayable game, and you will barely experience everything in a single playthrough. After defeating The Dreamer in Ward 17, you will receive an Orb of Undoing which can be consumed to reset all your Trait Points. After obtaining it for the first time, it can be purchased from Reggie in Ward 13 for 2,500 Scrap apiece.
Resetting Traits is a great option for trying other traits or when certain traits have outlived their usefulness, such as the Scavenger Trait which is quite handy early on, but depreciates in value once you get close to maxing out on crafting and upgrades, at which point you will practically have more scrap than you know what to do with.
The Best Traits in Remnant
All Traits in Remnant provide a benefit of some sort, but not all are useful in every single situation. It is entirely possible to acquire and max every single Trait in the game, but doing so will require a very large amount of time across multiple playthroughs. The following is a short list of the best Traits to prioritize early on as they can significantly improve your experience:
- Elder Knowledge - Grants a 20% boost to Experience earned from killing enemies at max level. Invaluable almost throughout the entire game as it increases the rate at which you gain Trait Points, allowing you to more points to allocate to other Traits much quicker.
- Vigor - Grants a flat bonus to your Health. The more Health you have, the less chance of getting one-shot by opponents.
- Endurance - Remnant is a punishing game and dodging is essential when it comes to preventing damage. Endurance provides a flat bonus to your Stamina and allows you to dodge more often, as well as sprint for longer.
- Executioner - In Remnant, offensive power can often be your best defense and Executioner gives just that, increasing your chance to critically hit opponents for huge damage.
- Kingslayer & Exploiter - Kingslayer increases Critical Hit Damage while Exploiter increases Weak Spot damage. Both stack multiplicatively and are further boosted by Executioner, allowing for some truly insane damage numbers.
- Spirit - Abilities in Remnant take the form of Weapon Mods and using them requires Mod Power. Spirit boosts your ability to generate Mod Power by attacking enemies and is invaluable for keeping uptime on your abilities.
- Mother's Blessing / Guardian's Blessing - These Traits reduces damage received from ranged attacks and melee attacks, respectively. Both are important and their priority depends on which type of attack poses more of an issue for you.
- Revivalist - An essential Trait for multiplayer, Revivalist cuts down the time required to revive teammates when downed, allowing you to get back into the action much quicker and prevent a wipe.

i find it strange that there are traits to increase status duration and mod power generation from status effected enemies but nothing that actually increases status damage, is this intentional?

Can someone who understands how wikis work better than I do edit the Handling trait to say "Obtain 10 Ranged Weapons" instead of just "Obtain 10 Weapons"?
I know it might seem obvious given that it's a recoil/spread perk, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought "oh, well it doesn't say only Ranged counts, so i'll burn money on the other starter melees to reach 10 faster!" only to discover I'd just wasted 1k scrap.

I need someone to kill me 10 times for suspicious, I can repay the favor.
Gui_SH_RE
Note about the Invoker Trait.
It was listed as needing the Corcus DLC. This is incorrect, its a Base game trait which was added at the same time as the Corcus DLC. (Changed now)
However it is somewhat bugged...
From my testing with 3 separate characters it seems bugged if playing on either Hard Mode or Cooperatively.
I was able to get the trait before reaching Root Mother on a single player world Offline on Normal Difficulty.
My other 2 characters I played on Hard mode with friends and only one has obtained the trait, albeit this was done grinding adventure maps alone.
It's likely that one (or more) of the following scenarios are the cause:
1) The Summons are not killing fast enough on Hard Mode which may not be counting kills
2) On Co Op Summon kills might be counted as "Your Kills"
3) Multiple Summons targeting the same target might be confusing the game as to where the damage is coming from
4) The Summon needs to deal the full damage amount, not just the killing blow.
As a workaround i suggest using one Summon (A Very Good Boy works well) on a normal difficulty adventure map (preferably Earth). Explore and do not damage any enemies except for Elites and just let the Summon go on a rampage. Summon a new one whenever the mod charge has filled.
It's rumoured that
1) Touching the crystal or dying resets progress (Not True as far as i'm aware)
2) Summons need to deal the full amount of damage (Possible)
3) A Very Good Boy does not work (Not True - I can personally confirm this)

Just would like to add one little note for you. In my first run of the game I never found Reggie's ring, but was still able to unlock the scavenger trait when the trophy for acquiring 50,000 scrap popped up.

You do not need the DLC to get past trait level 60. You're doing something wrong.

I already got the trait " Flash Caster" and i didn't create a new character , maybe u should try to get the "Seeker" mod , killing the Iskal queen in alternative way ;)

Vaccine and Invoker are base game! Also, this is a wiki, why cant everyone edit to fix?
- Anonymous
Per developer, maxing all traits is supposed to put your Trait Rank at 1K. I'm 3 short at Trait Rank 940. Some of these traits listed are not base game traits.

Gotta say I am very very happy that we get to actually work for our cosmetics rather than buying all of them. Sure you can argue that it’s $10 for the dlc but compare it to games like destiny or call of duty where it can be $15 just for one piece of gear. Love it
- Anonymous
I am a tad confused, are you about to unlock all the traits and level them to 20? However you can only a certain amount of traits active at a time?
- Anonymous
There a new summoner trait that increased summon minion dmg. I got it randomly just by summoning dont how many you need to summon thou.
- Anonymous
I'm confused why does this site say 33 traits and others say 32 ?

I can't understand why there is no trait that increases your max ammo supply! Constantly running out of ammo seems like a waste of potential to me.
- Anonymous
I have seen quite a lot of people asking why their available trait point + trait rank is not equal to 640 (maxed exp). I am here to clarify it: Many traits come with 1 value when you obtained it, the 1 value automatically added into your trait rank. So if your available trait point + trait rank is not equal to 640, it's not bugged. It means you have missing traits that give you 1 trait rank each when you got them.

So do you have access to all traits at once? Or just 8 at a time and allows you to switch traits?

Trait rank doesn't seem to have a cap, not sure if that was shared already. Traits individually have a cap of 20
- Anonymous
Am I correct in assuming that every trait has a corresponding ring or amulet? If that is the case then shouldn't there be a trait that increases elemental damage?
- Anonymous
The maximum level of a single trait seems to be 20. Or maybe Elder Knowledge just caps at 20, I'm not sure.

Mother's Blessing is incorrect. It's supposed to be 'Ranged Damage Reduction'
