Veil of the Black Tear
Generates a 5 meter impenetrable energy field. Heroes standing inside the energy field can shoot outward. Lasts 10 seconds.
Veil of the Black Tear is a Weapon Mod in Remnant: From the Ashes. Weapon Mods are components that grant active abilities which can be used in and out of combat. These Mods provide a variety of effects including dealing damage, healing, buffing players and more. Most Mods can be freely slotted in and out of standard Weapons, while the unique Boss Weapons have their own Mods that cannot be removed. Weapon Mod abilities require Mod Power to use, which is generated by attacking enemies.
Remnant Veil of the Black Tear Mod Information
Veil of the Black Tear is a Utility type mod that generates a 5-meter dome of energy that will protect players inside it from most enemy projectiles.
The dome has a base duration of 10 seconds. This duration is affected by the level of the Weapon the mod is equipped in, granting +0.25 seconds per weapon level, up to a maximum total of 15 seconds at Weapon Level 20. Its duration can further be increased with Mod Duration effects such as those provided by the Concentration Trait and the Cultist's Armor Set.
Veil of the Black Tear is a very powerful Mod for ranged encounters, of which there are plenty in Remnant. The dome cannot be broken and completely negates most projectile damage, while players within it retain their ability to shoot enemies outside of the dome. However, enemies can enter the dome without consequence, and they will be able to shoot or melee players inside. The dome will also protect against Wisps such as those that spawn when shooting the hanging hives in the Circlet Hatchery dungeon on Corsus, as well as those summoned by Ixillis. It will also protect against Ixillis' Corrosive Bombs, and other similar effects. It will not protect against beam-type attacks, however, such as those used by Ixillis himself, Claviger and the Iskal Queen. Players outside of the dome also cannot shoot into or through it.
How to Obtain Veil of the Black Tear in Remnant: From the Ashes
Veil of the Black Tear can be crafted by McCabe in Ward 13 by providing her with the following materials:
- Black Tear - Obtained by defeating Shade and Shatter, a duo dungeon boss encounter found in Rhom.
- Lumenite Crystal x 5 - Obtained by defeating Elite enemies which spawn randomly throughout the overworld and in dungeons.

This mod is broke as **** in multiplayer. Three players can cycle through the veils if timed correctly. This trivializes a lot of different encounters because it can effectively create a permanent shield from projectiles to shoot from.
Ward of Dawn but you can actually shoot through it lol
Not as useful as it may seem. Players still can pass through it, but also some enemy attacks just ignore it.
Beam or laser attacks will hit you anyway. Also it does not recharge while it's active.
Since Flicker Cloak was giganerfed, Veil is now a much more attractive defensive mod than it was before. Flicker still has the benefit of following the caster and blocking melee hits in addition to ranged, but Veil is just better at doing its job, and can be used to assist teammates in a smoother fashion.
The duration buff (min 10s, max 15s) was also nice, as before the duration was so low that it was difficult to take advantage of.
Very good niche mod. It can really save your life in some situations and boss battles. Exempli gratia: against Claviger, you can block most of the boss and minions' attacks. Against Ixillis, you can block the glowing homing orbs as well the corrosive bomb attacks (although you still have to keep an eye out for the melee strikes and laser beams).
Very cool ability, very awkward to use though. Requires a very hefty amount of mod power to activate and you can only hold one charge. On top-end weapons it lasts just over 10 seconds. Don't get me wrong, 10-ish seconds of total invulnerability to ranged attacks is pretty huge for some bosses, but in general you'll find Flicker Cloak is easier to use and more reliable defensively. Flicker Cloak blocks melee attacks, moves with you, lasts longer, and doesn't require as much mod power to activate.
His balls are more like minions, so Rattle Weed is more suitable, but i found Iron Sentinel to work just as well
This doesn't seem to work against Ixillis' magic ball projectiles. Not sure if it's a bug or what. Pretty frustrating though....
