Cult of the Root is a Random Event in Remnant: From the Ashes. Random events act like side quests where players need to complete some requests in order to obtain a reward. The events may or may not appear on your play through, requiring a restart for a chance of getting them.
Cult of the Root Description
- When you explore the area you will find a Heart-Like Root Structure. Don't attack it yet. Keep exploring the dungeon until you find a Root Cultist. Talk to him, he will be talking to a large root, he will talk about the glory of the Root and give you the Root Circlet when his dialogues are exhausted.
- Go back and destroy the Root Structure. Be careful as enemies will spawn while you are destroying it.
- Once destroyed, go back to the Root Cultist and you'll find that he is now hostile. Kill him to obtain Braided Thorns.

I love that you don't get jack **** (besides xp) for destroying the root hearts and killing the cultist because he immediately aggros UNLESS you wander through the dungeon all the way first. I love this game, but it's like it expects you to know everything before you've played it. Pretty frustrating my first time after only learning this AFTER getting the event and completing it.

Cultist / Worshipper was not spawned. No rewards for killing the trees except experience.

I got the root but the cultist wasn't anywhere... The random issues in this game are weard.

The root structures spawn hollows, rot warts, and flame devils infinitely which makes for a low effort scrap and iron farm with occasional lumenite drops.

the bonus scrap is after you get the first ring and you repeat the quest, the reward is a few hundred scrap instead of the ring you already have.

You can get both of the ring by talking to the cultist first, thne kill the heart of the root and kill the cultist.

I don't know if this is intended or a bug, but I has this event with 2 Heart-Like Root structures. I talked to the cultist, then destroyed 1 of the structures, and the cultist turned hostile. Then I destroyed the 2nd structure and got a second "Quest complete" prompt with the same amount of EXP, but no bonus scraps.
There is possible only nexus spawns in you realm without cultist thereby no rewards (trinkets) you can obtain from this event. World analyzer named this event just "Root nexus" instead "Root cultist"
