Cold as Ice is a Trait in Remnant: From the AshesTraits are special passive abilities tied to character progression. They provide a large variety of effects including increasing core stats, improving offensive and defensive capabilities or providing quality of life upgrades. Traits are the key to building a character in a player's preferred playstyle, allowing them to branch off from their chosen Archetype. Traits are obtained by performing certain feats, defeating certain enemies or completing objectives and quests. Each Trait can be ranked up to Level 20, further improving their effects.

Remnant Cold as Ice Trait Effect Information

The Cold As Ice Trait increases damage dealt to enemies when shooting them from behind by +0.5% per Trait Point invested, up to a maximum of +10% Backstab Damage at Level 20.

Cold as Ice has very limited applications for solo play as enemies typically aggro onto you. It can still see some use with the help of summoner-type Weapon Mods, especially the Rattle Weed which draws enemy aggro away from you. It can prove moderately useful in multiplayer sessions as enemies chase after your teammates, but other damage-dealing Traits should take priority. Backstab Damage applies to both Ranged and Melee Weapons and can also be modified with Crits and Weak Spot hits.

How to Obtain Cold as Ice in Remnant: From the Ashes

The Cold as Ice Trait can be unlocked as follows:

  • Acquired during the Brabus boss encounter on Earth. This Trait can only be acquired with at least one other player in your party.
  • You must enter Brabus' arena without the Pocket Watch which is acquired from Mud Tooth in the crashed plane random encounter on Earth. Entering the arena with the Pocket Watch will instead result in a friendly encounter.
  • Brabus will demand you to gun down your teammate. This is easiest achieved with friends, but only the winning player who downs their opponent will receive the Trait, requiring multiple runs for other players to acquire it.

Remnant: From the Ashes Cold as Ice Notes & Tips

  • Additional Notes for the Cold as Ice Trait go here.
  • All Traits can be ranked up by spending Trait Points on them. Trait Points are acquired primarily by obtaining Experience Points and leveling up. Every 1,500 Experience Points obtained grants 1 Trait Point.
  • Trait Points can also be acquired by finding and picking up Tomes of Knowledge which randomly spawn in the major locations of each world.
  • Traits can be reset by using an Orb of Undoing, acquired at the end of main Campaign. After completing the Campaign, these orbs can then be purchased from Reggie in Ward 13 for 2,500 Scrap apiece.

Solo Play only so far. i do not see this being something I will go for as its very situational. Also I could spend 20 pointd to max it out or I can easily spend those points on things that will consistently help me

      • If you have a watch and a friend does not. It doesn't matter who created the game. The main thing is that the one who does not have a watch starts a dialogue. The second player's watch will not be lost.

About a week ago I got this trait, I had the pocketwatch on me and my friend didn't. I found Brabus on adventure mode, we both enter at the same time. He addresses me because I have the watch. I refuse to give it to him and then he says one of us should kill the other. I kill my friend and then I get the trait, that's all. This wiki says that you need to not have the watch but that doesn't seem to be the case. Need confirmation

I had the watch and was playing with a random. I entered fog and gave Brabus the watch. Then he started talking to the random and told us to fight. I killed him but the little***** had undying mod and then ran and hid until the timer expired. So neither of us got the trait. Ugh.

So, once you got the Pocket Watch, you have to re roll till you find this damn dungeon two times, one to give him the Watch and another with coop to trigger the event?

I've asked in a Steam community post about this trait. Someone replied saying it is labeled as an "event trait", therefore only obtainable with Brabus event. I'm taking it with a grain of salt and so should you, but looking at the comments I'm pretty sure it's true.

Fun fact you can kick random people who join you when it says kill your friends to get this trait as well

How to get: Brabus encounter, the first player entering the fog must NOT have the pocket watch, then it's last man standing against your allies or brabus fight if you let the timer expire. Only the winner takes it. Ruined way too many peoples days.

Feels like I'm going to have to call bs on the back shotting, unless there's unknown technicalities. Been in Hunter's Hideout for hours forcing the Hollows jump attack and circling them to kill them from behind. Still no trait, never counted how many, but have gained 22 trait points in the process.

Is this either/or Win the faceoff by killing an ally in co-op after talking to Brabus Kill X amount of enemies from behind. Headshots with sniper rifle works well. or do you have to do both?
